Once upon a time, the Blackberry was like a Nigerian landlord with 360 brand endorsement deals across the globe.
In other words, business was sweet! On the other side of the fence was Tecno brand; locked in an eternal struggle to shed the 'Shaina phone' tag.
Fast forward a couple of years into the present and the tables have turned. Quite heartbreaking sha but while Tecno has become the new bride, Blackberry continues to plunge downhill.
Please, there's no witchcraft, wicked stepmother or Juju at work here. It's just the good and bad side of business, strategy and growth. Shikena!
How else do we explain how the 3 things below happened to the Blackberry brand in a space of one year:
1. BlackBerry Classic a nd Passport brought in combined sales figures as low as 8,000 units in March 2015
2. In February 2016, WhatsApp the most popular messaging app in the world announced that it would no longer support BlackBerry devices after 2016
3. The US Senate last week, decided to discontinue issuing BlackBerry smartphones as their official devices; giving officials permission to switch over to iPhones if they want.
Moral of this story? You must evolve and compete or face extinction (either as an individual or a company).
Thank you
