ARE YOU BETTER THAN A GOAT? By Abayomi Ahmed. O

My jaw dropped when I first saw this picture. I almost cried for we humans and for the first time in my life, I felt less than a goat. A common goat!

It is so sad, surprising and comforting at the same time that some animals can be so caring and selfless, lending a helping hand to one another in times of need.
As humans, we sometimes think and sadly even say aloud, "Am I your father?" or "Na me born you?" when we are asked for help with something.
Our spirit is bereft of any sense of responsibility for helping others in dire times. We think and sometimes sadly say it is none of our business to alleviate a fellow human being or living thing's situation.
However, in the picture above, we see a goat helping his peers get fruits from a tree. A common goat! You, an uncommon human!

Two situations are probable in the scene above. The helping-goat either gets a share of the fruit(s)  or not.
In the first case, 'he' is smart and rational, and they are coordinated for a common good. They see wisdom in putting all hands on deck for a common goal which would be beneficial for all and sundry. We may learn team-work from the goats. They went over the bar of selfishness to that of selflessness. It is surprising that animals can think in that seemingly complex and intelligent manner. Instead of doing it alone, we can all unite and achieve big. Unity is strength. Humans learn!

In the second case, if it is not getting any of the fruits, the helping-goat is altruistic. He lends out a helping hand without any expectation of a benefit, a pro-bono action devoid of any sort of quid-pro-quo. That is very surprising, coming from a common goat! Humans learn!

We the uncommon humans, can we just learn from these common goat? Lest we become lesser than them in our altruism and sense of responsibility to help our fellow humans. Lest we become lesser in comparison to them in our 'humanity'.
Isn't it sad how GOATS can be more HUMANE than HUMANS?

Let's learn from the goats and be more compassionate and altruistic towards our fellow human beings, our neighbors, colleagues, kins, friends and animals.

Let us learn from the goats.
